PAINT ME A ROSE
Paint me a rose
Take my skin upon it paint
Paint me a rose
For Rose Louise Marie my Saint
A silver fish will you paint me
For the wild open sea
And tattoo me a Highlander for my love
Paint me a rose
Paint me a rose
Paint love upon my skin
Paint me a fish
For life lost deep in sin
Like a fish I swam while you waited patiently
Like hook in water to catch me sunk deep
Paint me a rose then paint me a fish at sea
Paint me a Highlander
For my wife tattoo me
Paint me a new home
In Blackburn Street
Paint me a Highlander paint me a fish
Paint me a rose
A rose for mother Rose Louise Marie my Saint
Paint me a rose

JOSHUA GREENE
I met a man possessed
His name Joshua Greene
Joshua with champagne in hand
Next to Marilyn’s wind machine
Joshua why do you do it?
Joshua why do you care?
I do it for my family
My babysitter with platinum hair
Platinum hair my babysitter
Platinum hair
No one knew her like I knew Miss Marilyn Munroe
Father took the pictures
The son he repaired
To save the memory of Miss Munroe
A woolen jumper and platinum hair
I met a man possessed
His name Joshua Greene
He keeps alive the photos of
A babysitter by Milton Greene

VERTEBRAE
I see a happy child
A fossil cradled in hand
A dinosaur vertebrae
Found buried in deep yellow sand
Does it speak to you
The paperweight of stone?
This world will wash away its says
This old man’s bones
If you’d a bone to pick
Which one would it be?
Pick your battles wisely
Don’t ever pick a fight with me
You see life as chill
Life will chill you to the bone
To return to the egg you know
Is to return back home
I’m standing on this beach
Before mountainous seas
I didn’t lose myself be sure
In life I abandoned me
I abandoned me
Does it speak to you
The paperweight of stone?
The world will wash away it says
This old man’s bones

TOURIST ON THE MOON
I pulled on a new pair of blue jeans
And my credit bled red
I’ve left behind a footprint
I’ve got one use for these blue jeans
I’ve got one use for a plastic spoon
I’m going to feed well my ego
Go play tourist on the moon
Go play tourist on the moon
I drink my coffee from a cracked clay bowl
And the dust in my mouth say hey I told you so
I gift my grounds to the barren soil
Go play tourist on the moon
Go play tourist on the moon
Go play tourist on the moon
If I could fly away
We would both need somewhere new to land
But this land has too many rooftops
Too much drifting sand
Go play tourist on the moon
Go play tourist on the moon
I’ve left behind a footprint
On water for all to see
To make Jesus weep
I washed away
Go play tourist on the moon

DEAR PLANET BLUE
Dear planet blue with life on a drip
Dear planet blue dear planet blue
To make the desert green they say “Let blood pour”
Dear planet blue dear planet blue
Dear planet blue on a drip
Dear planet blue on the brink
Dear plant blue dear planet blue
For every olive branch one more life to uproot
Dear planet blue dear planet blue
Call in air support switch off life support
Dear planet blue dear planet blue
Dear planet blue on a drip
Dear planet blue on the brink
Dear planet blue dear planet blue

BEACH HOUSE IN THE SUN
I’m going to my beach house in the sun
Going to my beach house in the sun
I’m going to my beach house in the sun
Going to the sun
I’ll take up a new book
Fold it under my arm
Unfold my deck chair
Unfold my mind
Under my Panama
As the world spins on by
I’m going to my beach house in the sun
My beach house in the sun
If life were easy
Like my deck chair
Fold away my life
I’d swim right out of here
But it’s Monday morning
I’m back at the mill
Business dogs are hounding me
Let it fold like my unpaid bills
I’m going to my beach house in the sun
Going to my beach house in the sun
Going to my beach house

THE BOY WHO DOESN’T EAT
I am bulletproof
I’m a brand new silver penny
I’m invisible
I’m the boy who doesn’t eat
The people the people I have been
These bones they click and clack
The muscle drawn down
This broken leg no more mountains to climb
To look down from on high
When the time comes
When the clock stops
The hands put on hold
I will I will return
This broken body

MADELEINE
Do you remember me Madeleine
Remember me Madeleine
Remember me Madeleine
In this old town Madeleine
In this old town Madeleine
In this old town Madeleine
Going mad without you
The world spins like a carousel
Going up and down like a carousel
Going round and round like a carousel
Going mad without you
Do you remember me Madeleine
Do you remember me Madeleine
Remember me Madeleine

Ô STONE STREET
I live down on Stone Street
Ô Stone Street
I’ve got no desires
I’ve got no cares
I’ve got no cares
I count the years on Stone Street
Ô Stone Street
The needle takes the man away from me
Away from me

TWINKLING
From a featureless plateau with one house on top
North of Glasgow where the water runs east and its running don’t stop
A shepherd’s eyes look west to follow the sun twinkling
The shepherd came down from his plateau on high
He walked to Stobhill up in Balgray in the sky
From there the shepherd’s eyes look out to follow the sun twinkling
On skyline tower blocks southern chimney stacks
Stobhill the eponymous beginning and end of it
A sobriquet end of it first breath last gasp of it all
The shepherd’s eyes through limpid glass watches another day pass
The leaves on the rowan gone the frost explodes with a blast
Dark eyes look east waiting for the sun to come twinkling
From a featureless plateau with one house on top
North of Glasgow where the water run east and it don’t stop
A shepherd’s eyes look west, to follow the sun twinkling twinkling
He says:
I’m growing my hair before I grow bald
I’m losing my youth before I grow old
I’m losing my faith before I grow blind
I’m losing my interest in saving my time
The world is twinkling twinkling

DANCING SHOES
The jukebox swings one two three
A dream waltzes just for me
Will you dance with me?
Will you dance with me?
Will you dance with me?
In my dream it came to me
The dream waltzes one two three
Will you lead the dance?
Will you lead the dance?
Will you lead the dance?
I awake the dream is gone
I await alone
The dancing shoes have gone
The dancing shoes have gone
The dancing shoes have gone

DESPITE ME AND EVERYTHING
Despite me my memory has left me
Despite you I won’t leave you waiting here
Despite everything I won’t leave you
Like my memory has left me waiting here
Despite me and everything
Despite you I won’t leave you
